World Health Organization (WHO) and public health authorities around the world are taking action to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service has given taxpayers, businesses and others an extra 90 days to pay their federal tax bills for 2019, in a move to provide relief amid the economic fallout caused by the coronavirus outbreak. The new tax day is July 15, 2020.

But you can also request a filing extension in case you need additional time to file beyond the July 15 deadline:

  • Individual taxpayers can request a filing extension by filing Form 4868 and;
  • Businesses who need additional time can request a filing extension by filing Form 7004.
